Roto
Roto is a collaboration between Louise Pōtiki Bryant and Paddy Free, and is inspired by Lake Wānaka in Te Wai Pounamu. The film is also inspired by the kupu ‘roto’ meaning 'lake'. Roto also means 'within' and is used to refer to the space which is physically within another defined space.
With Roto, Louise explores the kaupapa of the lake within; the lake being a metaphor for our consciousness, and the surface of the lake being likened to our emotional state.
Roto was commissioned by the Festival of Colour and was funded by Te Runanga o Ngāi Tahu.
